Pope Francis and Devops – On Further Genuflection

I have long been uncomfortable with the branding of “devops” in what used to be the world of system administration. It’s becoming almost as dynamic and imprecise as the F-word is (just two more parts of speech to go, i think), up there with “cloud” even (someone out there must be proud).   Read more: http://rsts11.wordpress.com/2013/09/22/pope-francis-and-devops-on-further-genuflection-rsts11/

Response to “CAN (OR SHOULD) DEVOPS DO IT ALL?”

edit: Fixed the link to the article  There's an interesting article on the LogicWorks Blog titled, "Can (or should) DevOps Do It All?". It's a good read. You should check it out. I have some thoughts on that topic, so I went to comment, but unfortunately, I think their comment system is down, so I've taken…

Working with Zabbx (and not against it)

Over the past week, I've learned a new way to go about working with templates, and a new (best practice?) for working with triggers (in templates).   The first trick was how to create new templates that are similar to old ones.  In the past, I always made use of the Full Clone button, renamed…

Five Things I Hate About Zabbix

Everyone has their favorite monitoring system, or at least they've selected the one they currently hate the least (often one they've never used before).  Zabbix is … not mine.  Why, do you ask? Configuration is all database. … except for the bits that aren't (proxies) Scalability Bad data handling Customizability When the configuration is all…

2013 Election update

Fellow LOPSA members: The 2013 election for five of the nine LOPSA Board positions is at hand. The election site is tested, the candidate statements are readily available, and two IRC chat sessions with the candidates have successfully concluded with logs available. We have done what we can to inform you; now we ask you to cast your vote for our next leaders. Please be sure you have valid credentials to login to the lopsa.org site, you will need these to vote. If you haven't done so in a long time, please take a minute to confirm those credentials work – we want you to be able to vote. There should be one more announcement on discuss@lopsa.org just prior to the opening of the polls. The election will open Saturday, June 1, at 12pm EDT, and conclude two weeks later on June 15, at the same 12pm EDT time. After verification by our volunteer auditor, the announced results may be expected within 24-48 hours after the poll closes. The vote will take place at https://election.lopsa.org Note that only those votes cast during the election window will be counted. TIA, Mario Obejas, for the Leadership Committee Continue reading

Paul English Candidate Statement 2013

Focus – Marketing   Traditionally each board member picks an area of focus.  I would focus on marketing. I would take my experience with Cascadia IT Conference and work on awareness campaigns to reach people that have never heard of LOPSA.  Much of this can be done with little or no budget.   A focus…

2013 Candidate Statement

I believe strongly that LOPSA's future lies in the support and growth of local chapters and regional conferences. As the founder of one of the most successful LOPSA chapters, LOPSA-ETENN (which averages 29 people each meeting), I know first-hand how a chapter gets built and how to make it succeed. As a LOPSA Director, I…

Hello fellow SA's!   For those of you out there who aren't as familiar with IRC as some of your colleagues are, or are just not up to speed on using IRC, I figured I'd post some quick, simple instructions on how to join us for the upcoming LOPSA-Live board candidate sessions this Thursday (5/9)…
