Connecting to IRC for LOPSA-Live Sessions

Hello fellow SA's!

For those of you out there who aren't as familiar with IRC as some of your colleagues are, or are just not up to speed on using IRC, I figured I'd post some quick, simple instructions on how to join us for the upcoming LOPSA-Live board candidate sessions this Thursday (5/9) and the following Thursday (5/16) from 9-10pm EST.

1. Navigate to webchat.freenode.net in your browser of choice.

2. Choose your "nick" – this can be anything you want.

3. Fill out the "Channels" section with the following text: #lopsa-live

4. Fill out the captcha with the appropriate text

5. Click "connect"

6. Once you click connect, you'll see a the basic Freenode window–wait a few seconds, and then you'll be directed to the #lopsa-live channel window.

7. From this point, you can sit back and relax. However, your participation is highly valued and encouraged.  If you're new to IRC, there is one command you'll really want to be familiar with–that is /me. This command will allow you to signal the moderator for attention when used like the following: /me raises hand. This will signal to the moderator that you have a question.  Please wait until the moderator acknowledges you, and lets you know that you have the floor to ask your question of the candidates (or candidate, should it be directed at anyone in particular).

Should you have any questions, I'll be available in IRC as "sachsa" and will be more than happy to answer your questions during the live sessions.

Cheers,

Aaron
