2013 Candidate Statement

I believe strongly that LOPSA's future lies in the support and growth of local chapters and regional conferences. As the founder of one of the most successful LOPSA chapters, LOPSA-ETENN (which averages 29 people each meeting), I know first-hand how a chapter gets built and how to make it succeed. As a LOPSA Director, I will push the organization to focus heavily on building community and helping others build community in their cities.

I have been a LOPSA member for going on two years now, and have been involved with the tech-team for over a year and the Locals Committee from its formation. As such, I already have insider perspective on LOPSA operations and where improvements can be made.

As a former consultant to non-profits in the East Tennessee region, I have experience in non-profit operations, fundraising, and governance, in addition to having close relationships with executive directors of many other non-profits and professional organizations upon which I can draw advice from.

As to my technical background, I have been a sysadmin for ten years, in a huge variety of roles and industries, which has allowed me the unique perspective of being able to understand the concerns of a wider array of our membership and potential membership than many others have.
