In the Fall a young sysadmin's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of LISA. (apologies to Alfred, Lord Tennyson)
It's that time of year again, the time when a thousand-plus sysadmins make the trek to wherever the annual LISA conference is being held. This year, it is being held in Seattle, and most of the LOPSA Board will be in attendence. For those of you that are going to LISA, it's a great chance for you to meet the Board and let us know exactly what you think LOPSA should be doing. It is also a great opportunity to tell all of the non-LOPSA members at the conference just why they should become members.
You say you don't have a handy elevator pitch ready for everyone you meet? In that case, send them over to the LOPSA table where we do have people who can tell them all about LOPSA, or even better bring them to the LOPSA community meeting on Wed evening. We will be presenting the LOPSA year-in-review; covering on overview of LOPSA, our membership, finances, programs, and our goals and projects for the upcoming year.
If you stay around after the community meeting you'll have a chance to hear all about the LOPSA Mentorship Program, they are holding a BOF immediately following the community meeting. If that's not enough of a reason to attend one or both meetings, I have heard that there is going to be a raffle with some really great prizes.
We will also be hosting a social event later in the evening where you can talk to the Board members and meet other LOPSA members. We will have more information about that at the community meeting.
If you see me at the conference, please introduce yourself and let me know what you think LOPSA should be doing and what would make LOPSA more valuable for you. If you aren't going to be at LISA, as always feel free to contact me on IRC where you'll find me as "drich", or drop me an e-mail at president@lopsa.org.
