Well, today made it official. I have in my possession my Bachelor of Science and Master Degrees in Business Administration. It’s been a long seventeen years since I graduated high school and started on my advanced education, especially the first three and last four (considering I didn’t do anything about schooling for the middle ten).
I got both my BSBA and my MBA at the same time, mostly through my own laziness of not completing all of my undergraduate requirements before this term. One piece of advice for anyone in a similar situation: get the degrees in different terms. I confused the hell out of the school by getting both an undergrad and grad degree at the same time.
First, they ordered the wrong robes for me (just the undergrad robes) and it took them over two weeks to straighten out getting me the proper robes. Then, when I checked in today and went to pick up my honors cord they told me I didn’t get one because I was a graduate student; I had to convince them that I was getting my BS as well and did get an honors cord. Then, when I was in line to get hooded, the final check person wanted to pull me out of line because I was wearing undergrad honors cords, and only grad students getted hooded. Then the announcer tripped over my announcement because he had to announce both degrees and my __summa cum laude__, and they don’t generally announce honors for grad students.
Make it easy on yourself and on the school… get your undergrad and grad degrees in different terms. Feel free to get multiple degrees of the same level in one term, they have no problem with that. But don’t confused them with different levels. 😉
I guess I can officially now sign:
