I've recently read up on resume writing with an eye how I can improve my resume and job prospects.
My main takeaways were:
- For maximum impact, tailor the resume to the position you are applying for.
- Keep the resume to one or two pages long – no more!
- Provide a compact summary of professional experience including company, position, date. This should be a list the hiring manager can read quickly. If company is not well known, include the industry.
- Same for skills – this should be a compact summary list.
- When you detail your professional experience further down, quantify your production history: use numbers, dollar signs and percentages. This is the section where you give a little verbiage about each position held.
- Use active verbs; use sentence fragments; avoid the word "I".
