Interviewing technique

I had an interesting interview yesterday, and learned a new technique that I thought was brilliant. I was the interviewee, and the interviewer had a few technical questions (How would you discover which program was listening on a network port?). He could have simple sat across the table from me, and read questions. Instead, he laid a sheet of paper on the table, and pulled his chair around so we could both see and write on the paper. This turned the typical interrogation style interview into a collabration. So not only did he find out if I could answer tech questions, he got a better idea of how I worked with others. Since there were a few questions I couldn't answer straight away, he also got a glimpse of my problem solving skills.

I'm going to steal this technique when I have to be the interviewer. Its much harder in interviews to determine 'how well does this person work with others' than if they know which port https normally uses.
