Go Go Gadget Shopping Cart!

Well, with less than 90 minutes (45 reading the book, 45 of coding and copying) I’ve got a shopping cart running. I’m finally getting the hang of this Rails thing. It’s clear that knowing the Rails helper functions and libraries is going to be at least as important as being able to write Ruby code. It’s beginning to be obvious where the controller code and the viewer/rhtml code go (finally). I’m still not thinking in Ruby or Rails, but considering how little code it’s taking to get all this functionality, it’s becoming clear that there’s something good here. If I were building a new app from scratch, I’d *have* to give Rails a good hard look. It’s just that productive.

(On that “file number” issue, the easiest thing is to check off the files in the file list in Appendix C.3, so you’ll know if you’ve already used that file.)
