Oh, how times change

I have previously attended two LISA in the very distant past; 1996 and 1997 (I think….) in Chicago and Monterey (feel free to comment if I missed my years). I remember from those times spending a lot of time talking to very technical people, a lot of time drinking with very technical people, and having a really great time.

After a long absence, I finally have to opportunity to come back to LISA. My how times change. This time, I’m spending a lot of time talking to very technical people (many of them the same people I spoke to eight or so years ago, many of them new), a lot of time drinking with very technical people, and having a really great time. What’s so different you ask? I’ve also am spending more than my fair share of time listening to people like Don “Duck” Harper on his cell phone repeating (from memory) children’s books to putting his kids to bed (being prompted a few times by others in the car), and listening to John Stoffel calm his son, Jack, down (again, over the cell phone) because Jack couldn’t find a particular Thomas the Tank Engine book. Jack now sounds much happier and is headed off to play with his real Thomas set until his mommy can find the missing book!
